Grain ration optimisers

XL GRAIN

Enhances the value of grains and improves the feed efficiency of rations. For beef cattle and dairy cows.

  • Improves the protein content of grains
  • Enables grains to be used safely, with reduced risk of acidosis
  • Improves feed efficiency
  • Protects grains against mould

Get more value from your grains and boost protein

XL GRAIN is an enzyme complex, combined with carefully selected technological agents, which is incorporated into grains and acts on them.

When mixed with grains, XL GRAIN:

  • Increases the amount of home-grown grains that can be included in the ration, up to 10 kg per animal per day, while limiting the risk of acidosis
  • Reduces the need to purchase protein meals and concentrates, such as soybean and/or rapeseed meal
  • Improves the farm’s self-sufficiency in protein sources
  • Acts as an effective preservative

Results on the grain

  • Protein content increased by 5 points, based on more than 1,300 analyses
  • An alkaline pH between 8 and 9, providing a buffering effect
  • A healthy, stable product that does not attract pests

Results in animals

  • Increased milk production: +1.5 L of milk and +0.1% milk protein
  • Improved average daily gain in finishing cattle: +5 to 10% ADG and a 15- to 30-day reduction in the finishing period
  • Improved health through better digestive comfort

Recommendations for use.

XL GRAIN is mixed with mature grains, such as barley, wheat, oats, triticale or grain maize, together with water according to the grain moisture level. The optimum moisture content is 18% to 20%. It can be applied at harvest or during storage, using a mixer to trigger the expected enzymatic reaction.

Results are obtained with a dose of 25 kg per tonne of grain after 15 to 20 days of reaction. Our technicians check the quality of the treated grain at each on-site application, taking samples for pH, dry matter and crude protein analysis.

The cost of protein meals is now too high in rations

We work closely with farmers to calculate the feed cost of their rations.

The move towards greater feed self-sufficiency is fully justified. Purchased protein, such as soybean or rapeseed meal, accounts for around 50% of the ration cost in dairy and beef cattle farming. From this perspective, it makes clear sense for farmers to produce part of the protein required in their rations themselves. Each kilo of grain treated with XL GRAIN saves 135 g of soybean meal, while safely increasing the starch content of the ration.

“How do we use XL GRAIN? We mix 1 tonne of barley with 300 litres of water and 25 kg of XL GRAIN, an enzyme-based product containing urea. This allows us to increase the protein value of the barley four- to fivefold. The pH of the barley rises from 6–6.5 to 9. The feed is buffered for the cows, so we can give them more barley without increasing the risk of acidosis.”
